Fault code guide

Samsung dishwasher error codes

Samsung dishwasher codes usually end in C or E, and a lot of them come down to water getting in, water getting out, or a filter that needs a clean. Each one is explained below.

Checked against Samsung’s own guidance, October 2026

Before you check anything: switch the appliance off at the wall first. Never remove covers or panels from a machine that’s plugged in. If you smell burning, see scorching or the appliance trips your electrics, leave it switched off and get it looked at.

What each code means

Some codes have an extra number, such as 4C5 or 5C2. Note the full code before you call.

How to clean a dishwasher filter
  1. 4C4E Little or no water is getting into the dishwasher.

    Try this first
    • Check the water supply valve to the dishwasher is fully open.
    • Make sure the inlet hose isn’t kinked or frozen, and that your water supply isn’t off.

If water is reaching the machine but it still won’t fill, the inlet valve needs testing.

  2. 4C54E5 The dishwasher stopped early with a dry tub: the water pressure is too low.

    Try this first
    • Open the supply tap fully and check the hose isn’t kinked.

If pressure is good elsewhere in the house, the inlet valve or its filter needs checking.

  3. 5C5E The dishwasher can’t drain.

    Try this first
    • Clean the filter in the base of the tub.
    • Check the drain hose and the sink waste or trap it connects to aren’t blocked.

If everything is clear, the drain pump needs checking.

  4. 5C2 The drain pump isn’t pumping water out.

    Try this first
    • Switch off at the wall, remove the filter and check the sump beneath it for debris that could jam the pump.

If the sump is clear, the pump itself has usually failed.

  5. 1C The dishwasher won’t start, or stops early.

    Try this first
    • Check the filter isn’t clogged.
    • Make sure the load is spread evenly and nothing blocks the spray arms.

If it keeps happening, the water level sensing needs checking.

  6. 3C3E There’s no washing action: the wash pump isn’t running.

    Engineer if it returns
    • Switch off for a minute and try again.

If you see it again, the circulation pump or its control needs testing.

  7. 7C There’s no spray action.

    Engineer if it returns
    • Check nothing is stopping the spray arms turning.

Samsung advises contacting support for this code.

  8. HCHEHC1HC2HC4 A water temperature or heating problem.

    Engineer if it returns
    • Switch off for five minutes, then restart.
    • Make sure the filters are clean.

If it keeps appearing, the heater or temperature sensor needs testing.

  9. tCtEtC1tC2tE1 A temperature sensor problem, which can stop a programme starting or drying.

    Engineer if it returns
    • Switch off for five minutes and restart.

If it continues, the sensor needs testing.

  10. LCLE A leak, or continuous draining, has been detected.

    Engineer if it returns
    • Turn off the water supply to the dishwasher and switch it off at the wall.

A leak inside the machine needs tracing. Samsung advises contacting support.

  11. OC Too much foam: the cycle can’t finish.

    Try this first
    • Use only dishwasher detergent, never washing-up liquid.
    • Check the drain hose isn’t kinked.

No repair is usually needed once the detergent is right.

  12. DC The door isn’t closed properly, so the programme won’t start.

    Try this first
    • Close the door firmly and check no utensils or baskets are stopping it shutting.

If it persists, the door switch or catch needs checking.

  13. PCPE The programme won’t start with Zone Wash or Half Load selected.

    Try this first
    • Deselect Zone Wash or Half Load and start again.

If the option is needed and keeps failing, the diverter needs checking.

  14. FCFC2FC3FC4 A problem during the drying phase.

    Engineer if it returns
    • Make sure the vents aren’t blocked.

If it returns, the drying fan needs checking.

  15. 9C19E1UC An abnormal supply voltage has been detected.

    Try this first
    • Plug the dishwasher into a wall socket rather than an extension lead.

If it persists on a direct socket, the supply or power board needs checking.

  16. bC2bE2bC3bE3 The buttons or touch panel aren’t responding properly.

    Try this first
    • Wipe the control panel completely dry with a lint-free cloth.
    • Switch off at the wall for ten minutes, then try again.

If the panel still misbehaves, the control panel needs replacing.
