LG dishwashers use short letter codes: IE for water in, OE for water out, and AE or FE for leaks and overfilling. Below is what each one means, and what to try before you book.
Checked against LG’s own guidance, October 2026
Before you check anything: switch the appliance off at the wall first. Never remove covers or panels from a machine that’s plugged in. If you smell burning, see scorching or the appliance trips your electrics, leave it switched off and get it looked at.
Most LG dishwashers use these codes. Your manual has the final word for your exact model.
If water supply is fine, the inlet valve needs testing.
If it still won’t drain, the drain pump or hose needs checking.
If it returns with the right detergent, the leak or inlet valve needs tracing.
No repair is needed once the suds have cleared.
If it continues, the pump needs inspecting.
LG advises a service inspection for this code.
The heater needs testing. LG advises a service inspection.
The sensor or its connection needs inspecting.
LG advises a detailed inspection for this code.
The drying system needs inspecting.
If it continues, the auto-open mechanism needs inspecting.
This isn’t a fault.
Every code on this page has been checked against LG’s own support guidance. Codes can differ between models and years, so your manual has the final word. LDN Appliance Care is independent and not affiliated with LG.
